The 500kV Monsoon-Thanh My line project was approved by the Prime Minister for the policy of importing electricity and the connection plan for the Monsoon wind power plant (Laos) in document No. 938/TTg-CN dated July 21, 2020 and Decision No. 500/QD-TTg dated May 15, 2023 of the Prime Minister on approving the National Electricity Development Plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 (referred to as Power Plan VIII ).

The 500kV Monsoon-Thanh My line project (section on Vietnamese territory) was built in Nam Giang district, Quang Nam province with a total investment of more than 1,100 billion VND from credit loans from the Bank of Agriculture. and Rural Development (Agribank) and counterpart capital from EVN. The total length of the project in Vietnam is 44.71 km, a 2-circuit line, connecting from the Monsoon Wind Power Plant cluster (Laos) to the 500kV Thanh My transformer station (Thanh My town, Nam Giang district, Quang Nam Province).

Over 90% of column foundation positions have already been assigned to the construction unit; the remaining roles will be assigned in October.

Mr. Tran Dinh Nhan, General Director of EVN, underlined the construction criteria to ensure safety, quality, and progress during the 500kV Monsoon-Thanh My line construction implementation ceremony. To do this, each unit of the Project Management Board, contractors, consultants, and so on must work closely with local authorities and residents where the line runs. In terms of progress, the goal is to finish before the rainy and stormy season in the central area begins in the first quarter of 2024.

The 500kV Monsoon-Thanh My line project is capable of transmitting a maximum capacity of up to 2500MW, contributing to improving the operating capacity of the national power system through importing electricity from Laos. However, according to the power purchase contract, in the immediate future, when put into operation, the line will receive imported electricity from Laos' wind power source with a capacity of 600MW, with an expected average annual electricity output of 1.7 billion kWh.

The construction of the 500kV Monsoon-Thanh My line project (section on Vietnamese territory) has realized the bilateral commitment on cooperation between the Governments of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and Lao PDR in the field of system development. energy system.
